Sven Gordon Eriksson has signalled he will play big lumbering carthorse Emile Heskey on the left wing for England, why? who knows. With Steve McManaman being allowed to stay with Real Madrid Erikssons choices are limited for a wide left player, I just ask the question why do you need a wide left player? Don't tell me Erikssons' tactical knowledge consists only of a 4-4-2 formation.

From another point of view, why did he only choose one player in the squad who can (albeit out of position) play in the left? He was willing to pick Chris Powell to fill the left-back position so why not pick another untested player to fill in on the wing? To be honest Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt have played there more often than Heskey. I just don't see the need.

I've heard a lot of talk about David Moyes being the prime candidate to replace Joe Royle as Man City manager. To be honest, even if Preston don't go up I think Moyes would rather be at deepdale, I know I would. A lot less expectation, less expensive flops to deal with and probably a better chance of getting into the Premiership (in the short term). Emotional cripple Kevin Keegan is also expected to be approached for the job at Maine Road.

Inter Milan would like to sign Carling Player of the Season Patrick Vieira..... who wouldn't?

Liverpool have apparently turned down a 3.5m bid from Spurs for Christian Ziege, hankering after the 5m they paid Middlesborough. They'd be lucky, he's just another average full-back who can't defend but takes good free kicks (see Ian Harte).

And finally..... Italian playboy and Watford boss Gianluca Vialli has transfer listed club captain Robert Page as well as Steve Palmer and Peter Kennedy, that'll cheer the fans up.
