Hiatus
Please excuse the brief (or not so brief) interruption to our service: moving house + no phone at the new place + wedding(s) (congratulations Richard and Gemma/Emily and Steph) + International football break = no update. Sorry.
I had a piece written for last week, but had no time to post it. In summary:
- Arsenal and Chelsea good.
- With or without Rooney/Shrek, Man Utd are more average than they've been for years.
- Newcastle United were harsh and irresponsible sacking their manager four games into the seaosn, but Robson needed to go and I suppose the sooner the better.
- Steve Bruce was the best choice replacement for Robson (and he hardly has a reputation for managerial fidelity so prising him from Birmingham wouldn’t have been that difficult).
- New manager Graeme Souness is a poor choice. he’s made a hash of his last couple of years at Blackburn.
- Eriksson is just as useless as he’s always been, his main fault being his inability to analyse matches and see where his problems lie.
- Beckham should be dropped for England: Bridge, Gerrard, Lampard and Shaun Wright-Phillips are the best and most balanced choice for midfield.
- Jermain Defoe is better than Michael Owen ever has, or ever will, be.
- Ledley King is quite probably a lot better than I thought he was.
I’ll write something more complete soon, unless you appreciate the bullet point format stopping me waffling on for 500 words.
